Home Is Where The Bodies Are by Jeneva Rose-A Family Reunion You Won't Forget (Re-Read)

Synopsis

When three estranged siblings reunite after the death of their mother to clean out their childhood home, they expect to find old memories, family tension, and decades of emotional baggage.

What they don't expect is a collection of VHS tapes that reveal a horrifying secret buried in their family's past.

As the siblings begin piecing together the truth, long-hidden resentments, childhood trauma, and dangerous lies resurface. The closer they get to uncovering what really happened all those years ago, the more they realize that some secrets were never meant to be found.

My Review

Jeneva Rose has quickly become one of my favorite authors, and Home Is Where The Bodies Are is one of the books that cemented that status. It was the first book I read of hers and it hooked me immediately to her writing.

This novel is the perfect blend of family drama, psychological suspense, and murder mystery. Rather than relying solely on nonstop action, Rose builds tension through fractured family relationships and the uncomfortable realization that the people who know us best can also keep the darkest secrets.

The premise immediately hooked me. Three siblings returning to their childhood home is compelling enough, but the discovery of mysterious VHS tapes takes the story in a direction I never expected. Every revelation made me question what I thought I knew, and I found myself constantly changing my theories about what had really happened.

What impressed me most was how authentic the sibling dynamics felt. The characters are flawed, complicated, and shaped by years of misunderstandings and emotional wounds. Their conversations felt believable, making the mystery even more engaging because I genuinely cared about what would happen to them.

And then there's that twist wtfffffffffffffff.

T love a thriller that manages to surprise me, and this one absolutely did. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, Jeneva Rose pulled the rug out from under me. It's the kind of ending that makes you immediately want to flip back (or re-read) through the book to see all the clues you missed.

The pacing is excellent throughout. There are enough twists and revelations to keep the story moving without ever feeling rushed, and the alternating perspectives help build suspense while gradually revealing pieces of the larger puzzle (a hallmark of Jeneva Rose).

Final Thoughts

If you're looking for a thriller that's more than just murder and mystery, Home Is Where The Bodies Are delivers. It's story about grief, family, loyalty, and the devastating consequences of long-buried secrets.

For me, this was one of Jeneva Rose's strongest and best novels. The emotional depth made the mystery feel meaningful, while the unforgettable twist reminded me why I love her writing so much.
